Intruders threatened to throw acid into a woman’s face after barging into her Manchester home.
Shortly after midnight on Wednesday 20 February 2013, a 28-year-old woman opened her front door after hearing a noise outside and thinking it was her partner.
Four men barged into her house on Howden Road, Blackley and made repeated demands for her keys.
The victim does not have a car and did not know what they were referring to.
One offender then showed her a plastic bottle, which he said contained acid.
He then threatened to throw the contents into her face before the offenders left in an unknown direction.
During the incident the victim was punched in the face and had her mobile phone stolen.
One offender was white, about 6ft 3in tall, in his mid 20s and had a pale complexion. He was wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.
Another offender was black, 5ft 9in tall, of slim build and also in his mid 20s and a third was white, of slim build and about 5ft 9in tall.
Detective Sergeant Chris Flint, said: “The victim is at a loss to explain why her house was targeted and we are working hard to establish the motive for this incident.
“What is clear is that some very disturbing threats were made to her and we are appealing to anyone with information about the offenders or who saw anyone in the area at the time to contact us.
“We don’t know what was in the plastic bottle but to threaten to throw acid into someone’s face is extremely unusual. Do you know anyone who has talked about this or made these types of threats before? If so we are keen to hear from you.
“There are extra officers out and about and if anyone has information please come and speak to one of our neighbourhood officers or call us in absolute confidence.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3882, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
