A father and son were seriously assaulted after their car was rammed into in Burnage.

At about 6.05pm on Thursday 14 February 2013, the victims were driving on Mauldeth Road and stopped at a roundabout that leads to Burnage Lane, when their Honda Civic was shunted into by a BMW 3 series.

The BMW then rammed into the back of the car another two times.

A 54-year-old man got out to see what was happening and was immediately punched in the face and hit with an object, believed to be a spanner.

The man’s 25-year-old son then got out and was also punched and hit with the weapon.

The offenders then used the object to smash a back window of the car while the two grandparents and the 54-year-old man’s wife were inside. All three were showered with broken glass.

The offenders got back into the car and sped off towards Stockport.

The father and son were taken to hospital for serious bruising and wounds, and the grandfather, an 80-year-old man, collapsed due to shock when he was taken to A and E.

A short time later two men, aged 25 and 28, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remain in police custody.

Three men got out of the car. Police are appealing for witnesses.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pester said: “We are investigating this as a completely unprovoked attack on three generations of the same family who have understandably left shocked by what happened.

“We urge any witnesses to this attack to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
