Police are advising residents in the Trafford Park area to stay indoors with their windows and doors closed following a chemical leak in the Tenax Road area this evening, Friday 16 November 2012.

The emergency services were called to a chemical plant on Trafford Park shortly after 6.15pm today.

At this stage, the chemical is believed to be hydrochloric acid.

The building has been evacuated and a large number of nearby roads have been closed as a precautionary measure.

There are not believed to be any reports of injuries or people requiring medical attention.

Superintendent Chris Ullah from Greater Manchester Police said: “Emergency services are working at the scene to control the leak and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.

“We will keep the public updated but would ask people around the Trafford Park area to stay indoors for the time being as a precautionary measure."

The cause of the leak is not yet known. This will be investigated once the building is safe.
