Man attacked and suffers bleed to the brain

A man suffered a bleed on the brain after he was assaulted in Bolton town centre.

Shortly after 1.40am on Saturday 17 November 2012, police attended Nelson Square in Bolton after a disturbance had taken place between a group of men.


A 22-year-old man was punched in the head, knocking him off his feet and causing him to fall backwards on the floor and hit his head on the cobbles, knocking him unconscious.


The man was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury. He suffered a fracture to his face, a bleed to his brain and cuts to his head.

A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray in connection with the disturbance. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.


Detective Inspector Gary Smith from Bolton CID said: “A young man has been left hospitalised with a serious head injury and we are determined to identify whoever is responsible.


“We have a number of detectives working on this investigation and we are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact us with any information at all that may assist our enquiries.”
