A would-be robber was disturbed by customers during an attempted raid on a store in Wigan.

Sometime between 12pm and 12.15pm on 9 February 2013, a man posing as a customer entered Landgate Mini Market on Yewdale Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield.

He approached the counter and produced a knife from inside his sleeve.

He threatened the 59-year-old woman who was working there and demanded cash.

He was disturbed when other customers entered and ran off empty handed.

The shopkeeper was not injured but left shaken.

The offender is described as white, between 30 and 40 years old,  and was wearing a dark hooded top.

Detective Constable Andrew Hill, of Wigan CID, said: “The offender has casually entered the store before walking up to the shopkeeper and threatening her at knifepoint.

“While she was not injured she has been left extremely shaken and I would urge anyone with information about the offender or who saw a man matching the description running off to call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7226, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
