/ Woman left in critical condition after collision

A woman has been left in a critical condition after a collision in Manchester city centre.

At 2.45am on Sunday, 17th September 2017, a black Vauxhall Corsa drove southbound on Cambridge Street near the roundabout under Mancunian way, when it collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

The pedestrian, a 19-year-old woman, was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and has since been released under investigation.

Police are appealing for witnesses, and anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.

Police Constable Edward Lister of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This woman has been left in an extremely serious condition in hospital and we have launched an investigation to establish exactly how this collision happened.”

“While we have made an arrest, I am urging anyone who saw the collision, or who was around this area of the city at the time and has dash-cam footage, to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact the Serious Collision Unit on 0161 856 4741, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
