Equality Publications

GMP, in common with most other public bodies in the UK, must publish information to show how we comply with the Public Sector Equality Duty under the Equality Act 2010. This new duty came into effect from 31st January 2012. You can find out more information about the Act and the Duty at the website of the Home Office.

In considering what information we publish we have thought about what information people might be interested in, what information other police services and other public sector bodies publish and the guidance published by the Government Equalities Office and the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). We have used this section of our website to publish information that demonstrates the incorporation of ‘due regard’ to the Public Sector Equality Duty.

GMP is committed to positively responding to the Duty and whilst we have given thought to what people might want us to publish, we would welcome suggestions from the communities of Greater Manchester regarding what more information we should publish here. If you have any suggestions for future publications please e-mail us at diversity@gmp.police.uk. The commitment we are making to positively respond to the equality duty does not affect our other duties, such as the access to information provided by the Freedom of Information Act.

Employees

The duty to publish equality related information requires public sector bodies with more than 150 employees to publish information about their staff. The most recent demographic information regarding the staff of Greater Manchester Police is published on our Equality Performance Data page. We update this information quarterly.

Policies

We have reviewed the policies of GMP and considered which of those relate to our compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty. The Equality Policies page contains copies of GMP policies that demonstrate our due regard to equality. We will review the policies we publish at least annually.

Performance Data

Current and previous Performance Data can be found on the Equality Performance Data page.

Equality Objectives

GMP is required to publish Equality Objectives. You can find out more information about this Duty at the website of the Home Office.

We have devised 29 Equality Objectives that we will be working on throughout 2014 up until 2017 – these are incorporated within GMP’s Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Strategy.  We will use this website to report on our progress.

Our Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Strategy (along with our Equality Objectives) is attached to the right of this page.  This is also available in easy read on our Easy Read publications page (www.gmp.police.uk/easyread)

Other Sources of Information

Whilst this page provides information we are publishing for to the Duty, the rest of this website contains much more information that demonstrates how GMP works to tackle discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations in line with the Public Sector Equality Duty. See The Information Centre.

GMP supplies information to national bodies in relation to our performance on equality related issues. As these bodies also collect information from other police services and publish the information in one place this allows comparison between different police services.
