Speed Awareness Course

The Speed Awareness Course is an alternative to the Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty (£100 fine and 3 penalty points)

Those who attend and complete a course do not receive the fine or penalty points The Speed Awareness classroom based course includes:

  • The benefits of complying with speed limits
  • Identifying different speed limit areas
  • Consequences of speeding
  • The difference speed makes
  • Your driving behaviour towards other road users
  • Appropriate attitudes towards the misuse of speed
  • A coping strategy

What is involved?

Experienced advanced driver trainers deliver the course. You simply need to attend and participate. It is essential you bring current photographic ID to the course.

Do I have to take a written test or driving test?

There is no test but the course is most effective when there is interaction between the trainers and participants. You cannot fail the course as long as you take part and complete the whole course.

Will I be required to drive as part of the course?

The course is classroom based—there is no driving involved.

Do I still get penalty points on my licence if I complete the course?

The course is offered as an alternative to the Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty. Provided all conditions are met, the penalty points will not be applied and the fixed penalty will not be payable.

How long is the course?

The course lasts 4 hours and starts at either 8.00am, 1.00pm or 5.30pm.

Where are the courses held?

Courses are held at five venues on different days of the week including evenings and a limited number of Saturdays depending on the venue chosen:

  • Bolton
  • Carrington (Trafford)
  • Gorton
  • Moston

Courses are held in most other areas of the country (see website below).

How much does the course cost?

The course fee will be available to view on the providers website (fees vary in other areas). If you attend and successfully complete the course you will not have to pay a fixed penalty of £100.
