/ Armed robbery at The Blue Belle pub in Oldham

Five masked thieves smashed through a glass door during an armed robbery in Oldham.

Shortly before 2.15am on Monday 9 October 2017, police were called to reports of a robbery at The Blue Belle pub on Rochdale Road in Royton.

The men forced entry to the pub using a crowbar before stealing keys, cash and jewellery.

The offenders proceeded to smash through a glass door to a residential area where they threatened a couple for money.

The victims, a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, managed to barricade their bedroom door and call the police at which point the thieves fled the scene. They weren’t injured.

Police have released CCTV footage of the incident and are appealing for anyone who may have any information.

Detective Constable Madaleine Atherton, of GMP’s Oldham borough, said: “This was a heinous attack in the early hours of the morning as a couple were relaxing. It obviously terrified them to find five masked men smashing through a door and they were extremely brave managing to barricade themselves in a room.

“We are doing all we can to catch the men responsible and have now released CCTV footage in the hope that someone might recognise the men or their distinctive clothing.

“If you recognise anything from the CCTV or know something that could assist with our investigation then I would urge you to get in touch so that we can bring the men who carried out this attack to justice.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 189 of 09/10/17 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
