/ Appeal after a woman was sexually assaulted in Tameside

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted in Godley, in Tameside.

Shortly before 8.30pm on Monday 20 June 2016 police were called to a distressed woman aged in her 20s.

The woman had been walking home after spending the afternoon with friends and walked over the railway bridge opposite Rowan’s Wood Drive in Godley and adjacent to Godley train station.

On the bridge she was approached by a man in a dark hoodie who sexually assaulted her in some nearby bushes.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen anything around the time of the attack to get in touch with police.

Inspector Chris Simpson from GMP’s Tameside Division said: “This was an awful attack on a young woman as she was walking home, in broad daylight.

“We are taking this incident incredibly seriously and we are making sure the woman gets all the care and support she needs.

“We understand people in the local community will be very concerned about this, and I would like to reassure them that we are putting all our efforts into finding this man. We have extra patrols in the area and we welcome anyone with any concerns to come and speak to us.”
