As the dark nights are upon us I would urge residents to secure their windows and doors following a spate of burglaries in the area.
Between 1 to 30 August, 49 homes in Middleton were broken into. Twenty seven per cent of these burglaries happened because thieves entered the properties through insecure windows or doors.
Patrols have been increased in the areas and letters have been sent to residents to let them know that burglars are operating in their area. It also provides advice on how to keep your homes safe.
Residents are reminded to check your home for any insecurities before going to bed. Make sure your vehicle is securely locked and alarmed and that all valuables have been removed at night. Remember insecure vehicles and properties are the ideal target for thieves in our community.
If you don’t secure your home you are not only leaving yourself vulnerable to burglars, but you may also be invalidate any insurance claim.
During the summer period anti-social behaviour is always flagged up as a concern which is why we stepped up patrols to end any activity making life difficult for residents.
Our weekend anti-social behaviour initiative, Operation Quasar sees the team make early visits to known ‘hotspots’. Groups of youths will be warned of the consequences of their actions and the team together with licensing officers will visit licensed premises to remind staff of their responsibilities. We will make use of enforcement tactics including stop and accounts, public order legislation, fixed penalty notices and directions to leave an area.
