Police Support Volunteers (PSVs) are citizens who provide a range of office and community-based support function - supporting the Police Band, the Police Museum, various Branches/Departments and Local Policing.
There are a wide range of roles performed by volunteers within GMP. These roles do not replace employed staff or officers. PSVs enable the Force to establish closer links with the community and draw on the skills and good will that volunteers offer. This enables the Force to add value to and enhance our service to the public. Our volunteers benefit from skills development and transfer, and a providing meaningful service. PSVs volunteer around 4-hours per week, and are generally a long-term volunteering opportunity.
PSVs have to be aged 16 years or over, and ideally live, work or study in Greater Manchester. We recruit PSVs on a fairly regular basis, depending on need. The process involves:
- Application form
- Medical declaration
- Background and security checks
PSVs receive a formal induction into the Force and training appropriate and relevant to their role.
