Crime prevention messages go mobile

Bluetooth, supermarkets and high visibility patrols will be just some of the ways that officers will be distributing crime prevention messages this week as part of a huge crackdown on burglary, robbery and vehicle crime.

Neighbourhood officers throughout south Manchester will be holding a variety of different events geared at offering advice to residents about crime and how to avoid falling victim to it.

Police will also use bluetooth to send messages direct to residents’ mobile phones reminding them to remove valuables from their cars.

Patrols will be stepped up in hotspot areas and officers will be reminding residents to shut and lock their windows and doors to deter would-be burglars.

Chief Inspector John Taylor from the South Manchester Division of Greater Manchester Police said: “We have seen significant reductions in burglary, robbery and vehicle crime, however we realise that there is still a lot to be done.

“Falling victim to any of these crimes can have a huge impact on residents and I want to reassure you that we take these types of crime very seriously.

“Tackling robbery, burglary and vehicle crime forms part of our core daily business, however during this week we will be increasing activity so that we can speak to as many residents as possible.

“If you have any local concerns then please contact your neighbourhood policing team via phone, email or stop them when they are out and about.”
