Images released after arson attack on a newsagents in Withington.

At around 8.30pm on Sunday 29 October 2017, police were called to reports of a fire on Burton Road.

Two men had walked into the shop carrying fireworks, which they lit and threw inside the newsagents.

The sparks from these lit fireworks turned into patches of fire throughout the store, causing extensive damage.

Police have now released two images of men they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.

Detective Constable Chris Clarke of GMP’s City of Manchester Team, said: “The fire trapped the people working in the store, forcing them to jump over the counter and run to safety.

“We are treating this as an arson and have launched an appeal in the hope of gaining more information.

“We’ve released images of two men we wish to speak to in connection with the incident and would ask anyone who can help identify them to please get in touch with police.

“Similarly, if you heard the fireworks or a disturbance in this area at the time, I’d ask you to share any information with us.”
