Police investigating a spate of distraction thefts in Oldham have made two arrests.
Eighteen distraction thefts have been recorded across the borough by police since September 2017.
A number of reports have been made to police that a man who doesn’t appear to speak English approaches members of the public with a map to ask for directions.
At the point that he is asking for directions it’s been reported that personal belongings and valuables have been stolen.
Officers have arrested a 35-year-old man and a 23-year-old man on suspicion of theft and burglary.
They remain in custody for questioning.
Detective Constable Kate Dawson, from GMP’s Oldham Borough, said: “Today two men are in custody being questioned by officers but I want to make it clear our investigation does not stop here.
“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the people responsible are brought to justice.
“I would still appeal for anyone with any information relating to these thefts to contact police.”
Anyone with any information about these incidents is urged to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
