A man has been arrested in connection with a rape in Ashton-under-Lyne.
Shortly after 10pm on Tuesday 6 November 2018 police were called to reports that a teenager had been raped in a wooded area near Cavendish Street.
An investigation was subsequently launched and earlier today (Wednesday 7 November 2018), officers from GMP’s Ashton CID office arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of rape.
He remains in custody for questioning.
The victim, a 17-year-old girl, is continuing to receive support from specially trained officers.
Detective Sergeant Joe Harrop, of GMP’s Tameside Borough, said: “We have been carrying out numerous lines of enquiry since the initial report was made last night and we now have an 18-year-old in custody arrested on suspicion of rape.
“I want to stress that our investigation remains in the early stages and continue to urge anybody with information to contact police.”
