A man is in a serious condition after a collision on the M66.

At around 7pm on Thursday 16 February 2017, police were called to reports of a collision involving two vehicles at junction 2 of the motorway.

A Silver Mercedes Benz was entering the northbound carriageway when it broke down at the end of the slip road.

The driver put the hazard warning lights on and was waiting for recovery when it was involved in a collision with a Black Vauxhall Astra.

Officers attended the scene and although road closures were in place, the motorway is now fully reopened.

A 29-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were taken to hospital. The man remains in a serious condition.

Police are appealing for witnesses of the collision to come forward.

Police Constable Anthony Pye of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “While our investigation continues, we have a man in hospital who is being treated for very serious injuries.

“We need to fully understand how the cars came to be involved in a collision with one another and the events leading up to the collision.

“I’m appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or to anyone who saw the vehicles prior to the collision, to get in contact with my team.

“If you were in the area at that time and may have dashcam footage, we’d also like to hear from you.”
