Police are appealing for information into the movements of a vehicle that was seized after a fail to stop collision in Eccles, Salford.

Shortly after 1.00am on Sunday 27 May 2012, a car that was travelling west along Liverpool Road (A57) towards the motorway junction, collided with four people who were standing on the pavement.

The incident happened at the junction with Gorton Street near to the Unicorn Tavern, and the car failed to stop.

A 62-year-old man suffered a broken pelvis, a 63-year-old woman suffered a serious leg fracture, a 70-year-old man suffered a deep cut to his leg and a 67-year-old woman suffered serious fractures to both legs and facial injuries.

All are continuing to recover from their injuries in hospital.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision and concealing evidence.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested for attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Both men have been bailed until August pending further inquiries.

Police Constable Steve Beech from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We have seized the vehicle involved which is a dark blue Vauxhall Signum registered number VA03 and are asking anyone who may know any movements of this car between 17 May 2012 up until the time of the collision, to get in touch.

“The car has a very rare colour and is classed as Saturn blue but can give the impression of being black.

“Since the date of the collision all four doors, tailgate and bumpers have been removed from the vehicle. These may have been dumped or sold as parts and I would urge anyone who may know their whereabouts to contact the police.”

Anyone with information should phone the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.
