A man has been jailed for raping a woman in a secluded alleyway.

Daniel Hadfield (29/07/1990), of no fixed address, was convicted of rape following a trial at Bolton Crown Court.

Today, Thursday 28 June June 2012, he was sentenced to six years in prison.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.

In the early hours of Thursday 29 September 2011, Hadfield was with the victim in Rochdale town centre, escorting her to Asda on Dane Street in order for her to get a taxi.

As they walked along a ginnel between Hopwood Hall College and St Mary's Gate, Hadfield dragged the woman to the ground and raped her.

Out of fear, the woman walked with him to Asda. Once there she was able to escape and raise the alarm.

Police were called and Hadfield was arrested later the same day.

Detective Constable Nick Price, of Rochdale CID, said: “The victim thought she was safe with Hadfield and trusted him to safely escort her to a place where she could get a taxi home.

“Instead, he has waited until he got her alone in an isolated ginnel and raped her.

“The victim has suffered immensely as a result of this attack and I hope she finds some comfort in the knowledge that Hadfield will spend many years behind bars where he can prove no threat to her or any other woman.”
