As the summer holidays are coming to an end shortly it is perhaps a good time to review how things have gone from a policing perspective in Hyde and Longdendale through July and August. It is pleasing to report that both recorded crime and incidents of anti-social behaviour have shown good reductions when compared to the same period last year. This has been achieved with the assistance of the public and our partners so this is a big thank you to all those that have contributed, it is appreciated. The key now is to maintain it.

Some successes worth noting have involved the targeting of local offenders who blight the lives of many of our residents and “hotspotting” of troublesome areas. At this time all those individuals we have targeted are either serving custodial sentences or are subject to rigorous community penalties. This approach is paying off. Please continue to ensure you pass all relevant intelligence or information via myself or the local officers to enable the team to be efficient and to be where the problems are. As we continue to follow this approach I hope to see sustainable reductions and improvements in quality of life for all the residents.

In addition to the real proactive work of the team in tackling the offenders it is worth noting the work being done by our PCSO’s to engage the young people within our community. There is some great work being done by PCSO Obi Nkeodi (ex pro footballer) and the Godley team in promoting his football academy each Friday evening. The numbers continue to grow and we are seeing a significant drop in the number of calls for youth people causing annoyance when the academy takes place. I very much hope to see this continue and to become a permanent fixture in the events calendar for Hyde. Giving young people meaningful activity really works. Similarly the PCSO’s from the Werneth Ward, Rick Buckley and Chris Ritchie have again used sport to divert many of the young people of Gee Cross away from causing a nuisance at weekends. They have plans which will continue through the year.

Additionally I wish to reiterate my two main aims for the team:-

To reduce crime
To reduce anti social behaviour.

We are making a real difference with both of these so please continue to offer your support and assistance.

Finally we will begin planning very soon for Operation Treacle (to tackle ASB and crime around October half term, Halloween and Bonfire night) and Operation Snowstorm (to crime issues around Xmas and New Year). Engage with your local officers and assist where you can.

Please continue to offer your support and any information which will help us make your lives safer. We are your neighbourhood policing team.
