Foreword

The Hindley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) is committed to addressing the concerns of local communities across the area.

Through speaking to residents at our regular community meetings and surgeries we have identified several priorities in Hindley.

The priorities are those issues which you have told us greatly affect your quality of life, and we are constantly working with Wigan Council, Wigan and Leigh Housing, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and other key partners to address them.

Our community meetings, surgeries and priorities are advertised further down this page on the left-hand side.

To reduce anti-social behaviour across the borough, police are keen to get more young people involved in positive activities.

Here are some links to websites catering for young people:

Policing Update

Over the past month we have continued to act on information passed to us from the community. This has resulted in two drugs warrants being executed in Platt Bridge and Ashton where we recovered quantities of cannabis and amphetamine. The occupants of both addresses were arrested and now face criminal prosecution. It is with your help that we are able to identify criminal activity and deal with it swiftly, so please continue to contact us on 0161 872 5050.

We also provided crime prevention advice on how to reduce burglary at Somerfield Store in Ashton and Tesco in Hindley on 14, 17 and 18 October. At these venues the public had the opportunity to get some free energy-saving light bulbs to help light their homes and deter opportunist burglars as part of Operation Storm.

In order to make neighbourhood officers more accessible in line with our Policing Pledge, we have introduced a new police surgery at Landgate Community Centre in Bryn. This will enable residents to tell us about any concerns or issues they may have, and we can then take action with our partners. People will be kept informed at regular intervals about progress made in trying to resolve any problems.

Over the forthcoming weeks we will be involved in high profile policing operations across Hindley to target known offenders and executing further warrants at addresses suspected of being involved in crime. We will also be busy trying to prevent anti-social behaviour and criminal damage over the Halloween and Bonfire Night period as part of Operation Treacle.

Finally, we are looking at forthcoming initiatives around the Millers Lane Estate at Platt Bridge which will see police working with Wigan Council and Wigan and Leigh Housing to make the area a better place to live.

Policing Pledge

Police across Wigan borough are now delivering the Policing Pledge, giving people a clear minimum standard of service they can expect from their Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

They are asking residents for their input to ensure that the service is focused on the needs of local communities and addresses the issues that matter most to people.

What are your Priorities?

Hindley Neighbourhood Policing Team aims to provide you with the best possible police service and we are here to listen and respond to matters that concern you the most.

There are many ways you can have your say and influence what your local Neighbourhood Policing Team concentrate on. We hold regular community meetings and police surgeries where you can meet the team and raise any policing issues you have. Or, you can complete a brief on-line questionnaire where you can highlight any concerns you may have about crime or anti-social behaviour in this area.

All this information is then collated and fed back into formal monthly meetings where the neighbourhood priorities will be set.

We will then take these and work with other agencies to deal with your neighbourhood priorities, and report back through this site as well as the meetings and police surgeries, to tell you what we have done to help resolve your issues.
