Division Commander

We are continually working hard to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour across the borough, and generally make life hard for criminals.

Making neighbourhoods safer is a priority for us, and the role of the neighbourhood policing teams (NPTs) is key to achieving this.

One of my main aims is to make sure that you know who your local NPT is and how you can contact them, and you can access this information by clicking the areas listed in the top-left corner of this page.

By telling us your concerns, whether it be crime or antisocial behaviour, we can work together to tackle problems affecting your area.

Chief Superintendent John O'Hare
Rochdale Division

Greater Manchester Police is dedicated to improving the confidence of Greater Manchester residents in the police. As a result, Neighbourhood Surveys have been conducted with local residents since April 2008. We have now moved to a face to face survey which was introduced in October 2009 and involves a rolling programme of interviews carried out between PCSOs and local residents. The survey focuses on:

• Confidence in policing
• Confidence in partnership working
• Perceptions of anti social behaviour
• Neighbourhood policing
• Local priorities

The survey is based on a random survey of people in the local area. The use of a random sample aims to ensure the results are statistically representative of the local population. The results are used to improve the service provided by the police and our partners and are updated quarterly. Care should be taken in making comparisons in local indicators that have used different survey techniques.

Greater Manchester Police has established local targets for the areas of public confidence, perception of anti social behaviour and partnership working. Performance against these targets is measured at a force level through the British Crime Survey but local progress is monitored through our Neighbourhood Surveys.

This is how residents responded during January 2011 – December 2011.

Greater Manchester residents were asked about their perception of anti social behaviour in their local area:

5.0% of residents perceive a high level of anti-social behaviour. There has been a significant improvement of 6.4% points compared to the same period last year.

10.9% of residents perceive drug use/dealing to be a very or fairly big problem. There has been a significant improvement of 14.5% points compared to the same period last year.

Greater Manchester residents were asked about public confidence:

87.8% of residents believe that the police are doing an excellent or good job. There has been a significant improvement of 14.2% points compared to the same period last year.

94.3% of residents agree that, taking everything into account, they have confidence in the police. There has been a significant improvement of 10.8% points compared to the same period last year.

63.5% of residents agree that they have the ability to influence local priorities. There has been a significant improvement of 19.7% points compared to the same period last year.

89.4% of residents agree that the police are dealing with the issues that matter. There has been a significant improvement of 13.2% points compared to the same period last year.

Residents were also asked about their views on partnership working between the police and local council:

73.0% of residents agree that the police and local council are dealing with anti-social behaviour and crime. There has been a significant improvement of 11.9% points compared to the same period last year.
