Changes to the way that you contact us
From 27th February 2017 some of our public enquiry counters will be closing, and some will see a change in hours.
Officer numbers in your area won’t be changing and the service you receive will not be affected, but it does mean you might have to find a different way of getting in touch with us, or you may need to travel a little bit further to speak to us at an enquiry counter.
From the 27th February 2017 the following stations will be closed to the public, unless you have a pre-arranged appointment:
- Fred Perry House (Stockport Council)
We’ve made this decision after a lot of work, lots of conversations with you and the people that we work alongside (such as your council) and after a full public consultation that almost 2000 people responded to.
The review of our counters has been running since 2015 and has considered the changes that could be made to ensure services are being used in the most effective way, with resources being redirected to more popular methods of contact as a result of findings, like getting in touch online or over the phone.
We are transforming policing in Greater Manchester and these changes will help us focus on meeting demand that already exists. We need people’s continued support as we make changes to ensure we are focused on keeping people safe and providing the best service possible.
The review found that the 10 counters due to close generated just 18% of demand across the whole of Greater Manchester. Some, such as the counter at Horwich Police Station, saw as little as 1 member of the public attending the PEC per day during the review.
Almost 2000 people responded to GMP’s survey on how they access services, with just 10 per cent saying they had been in to a public enquiry counter in the last 10 years but half of respondents (50 per cent) saying they had looked at GMP’s website or contacted them online.
Get in touch with us in the following ways now, or after the changes have taken effect in February:
- Using the yellow phone outside one of our stations
- Calling 101 or 999 in an emergency
- Calling your local policing team (just search for your area on this website)
- Social media
- Visiting another police station
- Speaking to a police officer or police community support officer while they’re on patrol
- Email your local neighbourhood policing team
