Inspector Michael Reid

Dear Residents,

I hope you have had a good start to the new year? On my last update I mentioned that we are going through some changes in GMP and these changes continue as this week has seen the arrival of four newly promoted Inspectors to the Bolton Division, along with two new Detective Inspectors, these changes are good as they will bring new ideas, as well as rejuvenate the teams they lead.

Some of you will have noticed there has been a recent increase in our Social Media output on Twitter and Facebook, the reason behind this is we want to become better connected with you the Community. Social Media can have a very positive side assisting communication between Police, Partner Agencies and the Community, some of the complaints we receive are because residents don’t know what we are doing, or can’t see the fantastic effort the teams are putting in, so we want to use this opportunity to showcase some of our great work, it also lends itself to getting out appeals, such as Wanted, or Missing Persons, along with general appeals for help, or information and it is these positives we need to capitalise on. I want to take this opportunity to ask you, your friends and family to follow your local Policing Teams (Twitter @GMP Bolton South and Facebook GMP Bolton South) Also don’t forget to keep checking this website for up to date advice on how best to contact us, what’s happening in your area and how to keep yourself safe.

Following on from the Citizen’s Contract launched by GMP, you may have seen recently that Community groups are being invited to bid for money to tackle anti-social behaviour in the New Bury area, Sergeant Alex Metcalfe launched the project along with Bolton Council and members of the community. On Saturday 3rd March 2018 at St James’ high School, there will be a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style bidding process where the community get to decide who gets the money, £5,000 will be from Bolton Council and £10,000 will be from money seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) what a great way to spend criminal’s money they shouldn’t have had in the first place!

Kind regards and stay safe.
