Inspector Shan Nasim
Welcome to the Manchester East Neighbourhood pages of the website.  The East Neighbourhood Team cover the following areas; Newton Heath, Miles Platting, Clayton, Ancoats, Beswick, Openshaw, Gorton North and Gorton South.

We have a strong link with the communities in these areas and are reliant upon them to support us by providing information relating to Crime in their areas.  We have had many successes as a result of information directly provided by the community and one such example is Operation Copperhead.  Operation Copperhead is focusing on drug dealing in the Newton Heath and Miles Platting area and has already seen an significant amount of arrests and custodial sentences as a result of the operation.

Issues such as drug dealing, Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) affect the quality of life in our communities and in the East Neighbourhood Team we are determined to take action against those who are responsible. This can be through enforcement action and through work with our partners in the area.

One such example, is the current ASB issues in the Mount Round area of Gorton. We have teamed up with 'Gorton Youth Matters', Manchester City Council, Eastlands Homes and Greater Manchester Fire Service to deal with the issues. When dealing with ASB we recognise that enforcement is only part of the solution, working with partners as those mentioned above gives us a more holistic approach to the issue.  Without our partners problem solving can become impossible.

As we approach darker night the priority for the whole of the East Neighbourhood is prevention of Burglary.  Historically, there is a rise in Burglary at this time of year and we have been spending a considerable amount of time offering Crime prevention advice in areas which are targeted.  Please make sure that you take the necessary actions, such as use of light timers, closing windows, locking doors and ensuring that any valuables are marked and stored securely.  Please take the time to have a look at https://www.police.uk/crime-prevention-advice/ which offers practical advice to make your home more secure.

Please remember if you have any information regarding Crime, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers will treat your identity confidentially and there may be a cash reward if your information proves fruitful.

Thank you for taking the time to visit the site and if you need any information regarding your neighbourhood please contact on 0161 856 3521 or via our Neighbourhood Email address Manchestereast@gmp.police.uk.
