My name is Karl Hopper, on behalf of Sgt Dave Clarke and our team welcome to our webpage for Lowton East, Golborne and Lowton West. As part of GMP’s focus on neighbourhood policing your area has a dedicated team of neighbourhood beat officers, neighbourhood police officers and police community support officers. They have ownership for their area and any issues within that area.
I am an experienced Police officer with past neighbourhood experience as well as working as a detective and as a Sgt at Eccles and within the Operational Communications Branch in Leigh and Ashton-under-Lyne.
I returned to working in Wigan Borough over 3 years ago working in operational policing and taking up the role as Inspector.
I am looking forward to the challenge ahead for myself and my team of keeping our community safe and reducing crime, and working with yourselves and partners to achieve this.
We are heading towards the summer months and school summer holidays. Seasonally the main issues are burglaries, anti-social behaviour and vehicle crime. A large proportion of burglaries reported at this time of year involve offenders entering via insecure doors and windows and the same for vehicle crime. Please be aware and take extra care when locking up your property. Don’t provide the opportunists with an easy target.
Regarding anti-social behaviour (ASB) we ask for your continued support in helping us tackle this issue. We will be working closely with partner agencies in order to deal effectively with ASB and a number of diversionary activities will be made available for young people. I am looking forward to working with yourselves and the community to tackle these issues. This will be supported by GMP’s Citizens Contract, and the issues raised during the consultation period are now being reviewed.
It is important that we all play a part in reducing ASB and with this in mind I would ask parents to consider the following:
- Know where your child is and who they are with
- Encourage them to participate in planned activities
- Don`t allow them to consume alcohol and discuss the subject with them
- If you suspect alcohol or drug use, contact the relevant support agencies for help and guidance.
