Job summary

The Greater Manchester Against Crime (GMAC) central team tackles Greater Manchester wide crime and disorder issues through partnership working, problem solving and information sharing. GMAC is currently working in a range of exciting areas, including Serious Violent Crime, Serious Acquisitive Crime, Public Confidence and Re-Offending. We are seeking a motivated, analytically minded professional to join our eleven-strong team.
Your role is to work effectively with key decision makers, up to a strategic Greater Manchester level, so that effective community safety initiatives can be developed and put into place to tackle Greater Manchester wide issues.
You will bring proven research and analytical skills, with the technical ability to work with complex datasets provided by a range of agencies. You will be able to identify and interpret key trends, and to highlight and understand the underlying causes of crime and disorder issues. You will possess the first class coordination and communication skills that are required to keep key decision makers fully informed. You will have the organisational skills to work on multiple diverse projects simultaneously and the flair to identify new approaches to analysis.
A research based degree, experience of computer based statistical/Geographical Information Science packages and experience of working in a community safety/criminal justice environment are all desirable elements for this role.
Shortlisted applicants will need to complete a test and give a short presentation prior to interview.

Temporary until March 2011.

Although currently based at Oakland House, Old Trafford, this post will move to the new purpose built GMP Headquarters at Central Park, Northampton Road, Manchester. Completion of this building is expected to be early 2011
