WHAT IS POSITIVE ACTION, AND WHAT DO WE DO?
Greater Manchester Police is committed to changing the composition of our workforce. It is important that our workforce truly reflects the diverse communities, that make up the area that GMP covers, and we are keen to hear from potential applicants who are looking for new and challenging career opportunities, both in and out of uniform.
The force developed a Positive Action Team (PAT) sometime ago, which is made up of a team of police staff who work amongst the local community, and with under-represented groups, in particular at community events and one to one meetings.
PAT exists to promote career opportunities within GMP to all under represented groups, which includes females, minority ethnic communities, LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans-gender) and disabled persons.
The team actively encourages and supports applicants from these under represented groups and offers support and career guidance on both a one to one basis and / or as part of a group.
PAT covers the recruitment and selection process for Police Officers, P.C.S.O’s (police community support officers), the Special Constabulary and also Police Staff roles.
We aim to encourage and support individuals at every stage of the recruitment process (excluding fitness and medical). Our workshops provide applicants with guidance and support with completing the application form, preparation for the Assessment Centre and also Mock Interview sessions, where you can practice your interview technique and gain some feedback.
Once you have attended a workshop you will be assigned to a specific PAT officer who you can contact or meet with to discuss your progress and plan your preparation for the next stage in the recruitment process.
These workshops should provide you with the necessary skills to progress through all aspects of the recruitment and selection process.
