Christmas cards for criminals

Criminals who offend in the Trafford area can expect a message of festive goodwill from Greater Manchester Police this year.

Trafford police’s Video Intelligence Unit is sending specially designed Christmas cards to 200 people known to have committed crime within the borough.

The cards, which have been designed and created by Greater Manchester Police’s Corporate and Media Imaging Unit, depict an officer taking a meal to a custody cell and ask ‘will we be seeing you for Christmas Dinner?’

Rather than offering glad tidings of comfort and joy, the aim of the cards is to remind known offenders that they could face being locked up over the festive period if they re-offend. Some cards will be hand delivered by Police Community Support Officers, while the rest will be sent by post.

Chief Superintendent of Trafford Police Janette McCormick said: “With this scheme, we are taking the initiative to the offenders rather than waiting for them to re-offend.

“The aim is to remind them that criminal activity will not be tolerated in Trafford and that they could end up spending Christmas in custody if they offend.

“We also want to reassure Trafford residents that we are actively targeting offenders.“
