Special Sunday for south Manchester (South Manchester)
Police in south Manchester will be looking for something extra special when they host a recruitment event for people wanting to join the special constabulary.
The event, which takes place on Sunday 24 January (10am – 2pm) at West Didsbury Police Station, Elizabeth Slinger Road will offer people the chance to find out about being a special. Advice on skills needed, what the training and job involves and the benefits you could gain from being a special constable will be available from a team of serving specials and local police officers.
Special constables are volunteers from all walks of life that give up their free time to assist with the policing of the community. They normally work a minimum of four hours per week. Specials work alongside full-time police officers to perform a variety of duties including policing organised events and take part in operational tasks, helping to tackle key crimes such as anti-social behaviour, robbery and burglary.
Chief Inspector Peter Jones said: “Being a special constable is a great way to give something back to your community, develop new skills or learn what being a police officer is really like.
"For anyone who has some spare time, it is a very rewarding thing to do, and for those interested in becoming a regular police officer, there is no better way of getting an insight into policing. I would encourage anybody thinking of joining to come along to the recruitment day for a chat."
Applicants to the special constabulary must be aged 18 or over and in good health. Anyone who is interested in attending the recruitment day is asked to call Stacie Lynn on 0161 856 6188 or email stacie.lynn@gmp.police.uk.
Those that have already received an application form should complete questions 1 to 14 prior to attending the event. Spare copies will be available should you make a mistake.
