Officers go back to the classroom

Police are going back to school this week (Monday 22 to Friday 26 February) to educate youngsters about the role of the police and encourage them to stay out of trouble.

Officers from the Oldham East Neighbourhood Policing Team will be at Holycross Primary School throughout the week, talking to pupils about what a police officer does and what it’s like working for Greater Manchester Police.

They will also be telling the young people about the consequences of getting involved in crime and anti-social behaviour and how this can impact on them getting their dream job when they are older.

PC Stuart Manning said: “This is the age when children think about what they want to be when they grow up whether it’s a brain surgeon, fire fighter, astronaut or police officer. So by educating the pupils about the consequences of crime and anti-social behaviour and telling them about our job, we hope to inspire them and make them believe that they can achieve their dreams, as long as they stay out of trouble.”

At the end of the week the children will do a presentation to the other pupils, teachers and police officers about what they have learnt during the project. The 10 pupils who do the best presentations will win tickets to a Premier League football match.
