Police target purse thieves
Police in Wythenshawe are handing out bag cables and purse bells to deter purse theft.
Following a recent spate of incidents at Wythenshawe Civic shopping centre, officers from the dedicated town centre policing team have stepped up patrols and are handing out security devices in an attempt to put a stop to this despicable crime.
The bag cables allow residents to attach their purse to the inside of their bag while the purse bells alert them to thieving hands.
Crime reduction advisor, Gill Price said: “Wythenshawe Civic has a dedicated team of officers that are responsible for patrolling the area to deter criminals. They also work closely with retailers to ensure that together we make life harder for thieves.
“Residents should remember to keep valuables such as purses, phones and MP3 players out of sight and report anything suspicious that you see to the police on 0161 872 5050 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
