Keep burglars out in the cold

Residents are being warned to keep their homes secure and be on the lookout for anyone they think may be acting suspiciously following two attempted burglaries in the St James’ area of Oldham East.

On each occasion the burglars caused damage the property but failed to gain entry.

Inspector Kevin Rankin of the Oldham East Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We have increased our patrols in this area to deter further attempts but we also need the public’s help to catch those responsible.

“If a member of the public notices someone acting suspiciously and feels that it is significant enough to give us a call, then we will send an officer to investigate that report, as it could be a potential crime in progress. Timely information from the community is vital in helping us to do our job and catch criminals in Oldham, so please do call us at any hour if you see anyone acting suspiciously.”

Residents are also being warned to keep doors and windows locked and keep valuables out of sight, particularly car keys.

“As well as stealing property from inside the house, burglars will also help themselves to your car given the opportunity. By keeping car keys out of sight and out of reach, preferably in a locked drawer or cabinet, you can make life a lot harder for criminals,” adds Inspector Rankin.
