Insecurity warning as burglars strike (Salford)

Members of the community are being warned to keep their homes secure following a number of burglaries in Salford.

There have been three incidents in the Swinton, Higher Broughton and Seedley areas during the past few days where criminals have entered homes via insecure front and back doors.

Residents are being reminded to lock their property or risk an unwanted visitor searching their home for valuables.

Crime Reduction Advisor for Salford Division, Glyn Wood said: “A third of burglaries are down to insecurities in the home so it is important residents take a few simple steps to avoid this type of crime. Please ensure that all doors and windows are kept secure, even if you are staying inside. If you are going out, use a timer light so it gives the impression that someone is home.

“Insecure burglaries can also have a knock on effect on insurance claims if you have been proven negligent in securing your property”

Glyn added: ”Residents can also register valuables on-line through the national www.immobilise.com database. It is free and makes possessions less attractive to thieves. The database is available to all UK police forces who use it to return lost and stolen possessions to their rightful owners.”
