Advice for GMP staff travelling to work

The heavy snow we are currently experiencing poses a big challenge for GMP. As an emergency service we need to do everything we can to ensure we maintain a high level of service to people living in Greater Manchester.

So far, thanks to the commitment staff have shown, we have seen minimal disruption to normal services, with 97% of 999 response targets being met.

In the coming days I would ask that police officers and staff make every effort to get to their normal place of work. Some public transport is continuing to operate, details can be found at the GMPTE website.

If police officers and PCSOs are struggling to get into their normal place of work, they should report to supervision at their nearest police station where arrangements will be made for them to work at an alternative location or be transported to their normal workplace.

OCB staff and police staff should contact their supervision if they are experiencing difficulties getting into work.

I understand that journeys may take longer in these weather conditions and allowances will be made for delays due to snowy conditions, however I would ask staff give themselves extra time when travelling to and from work to ensure they get there safely.

Officers and staff who are not able to get into work should take time due, annual leave or unpaid leave for the period they are unavailable.
