Community centre to get a musical boost
A Whitefield community centre is to receive a financial boost thanks to a musical Police Community Support Officer from Bury.
PCSO Andy Calvert’s band 5th Amendment will take to the stage alongside two other groups at St Bernadette’s Social Club on Manchester Road, Whitefield on 6 February for a special fund-raising concert in aid of the nearby Elms Community Centre.
PCSO Calvert is a member of the Whitefield Neighbourhood Policing Team and has been a guitarist with the band - which plays a selection of covers ranging from Jimi Hendrix to REM - for around eight years.
PCSO Calvert said: “I regularly visit the Elms Community Centre on my patrols in the Unsworth Ward of Whitefield and know how important it is as a focal point for neighbourhood events and meetings.
“There has been a really strong community spirit among all those who have been involved in organising the event and all of the bands are giving up their time for free and local volunteers are putting on food for visitors. I would urge everyone to come down and enjoy a great night out which will really benefit their neighbourhood.”
The concert begins at 7.30pm. For details email andrew.calvert@gmp.police.uk
