Homes secured in operation
Police in Stockport have been helping to secure homes in the fight against crime.
Neighbourhood officers and colleagues from the Safer Stockport Partnership visited homes across the borough and conducted security assessments with local residents. Age Concern then installed free security measures such as window locks, door chains and spy holes to maximise residents’ safety and security to more than 100 homes.
Inspector Mike Griffiths, from the Stockport Operational Policing Unit, said: “This partnership project has been greatly received and helped to make people feel much safer in their own home and we encourage people to look at their own home security.
“Make sure your windows and doors are locked at all times and especially when you are in bed. If you have a burglar alarm then make sure you use it. If you do not have one then seriously consider getting one installed.”
Councillor Helen Foster-Grime, Executive Member for Communities, said: “Operation Storm has shown how effective partnership working between the Council, police and Age Concern can help make a real difference to people’s lives. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this successful operation.”
The partnership project took place over six days. Officers from the mounted unit also took part in high visibility patrols to deter offenders.
