Martial arts classes strengthen community links (Tameside)
Residents are being offered free martial arts lessons in the Heyrod and Mossley area.
The lessons are open to families and anyone aged six upwards and will be held every Friday evening from 6pm to 7.30pm at Heyrod Village Hall beginning Friday 22 January.
Neighbourhood Officer PC Mike Devine said: “The lessons are a great way for people to keep fit as well as get information about personal safety. They also give officers the opportunity to meet with residents in an informal environment and discuss any neighbourhood policing issues they may have.
“People may not feel comfortable visiting a police station or are unable to attend one of our regular police surgeries due to work or family commitments. The lessons therefore provide another venue for us to meet with people.
“As well as strengthening links in the community they provide young people and families with the chance to take part in an activity that they may not otherwise try out. They are free and all the equipment is provided so people just need to turn up to take part.”
KMMA Freestyle Martial arts will be providing an instructor and people attending are recommended to wear sports clothing such as a tracksuit.
Tameside East Neighbourhood Policing Team has provided funding for the lessons.
