Bury appoints new police commander
Chief Superintendent Jon Rush has been appointed as the new Divisional Commander for Bury police.
From 7 January 2008, Jon will take over from Chief Superintendent David Anthony, who is being transferred to be the new Divisional Commander for South Manchester after almost two years in the role at Bury.
Since Jon’s arrival at Greater Manchester Police in May 2007, he has worked at Force Headquarters where he has had responsibility for a number of key projects, including developing strategies for anti-social behaviour and supporting the Command team in the restructure of GMP.
Before joining GMP, Jon spent 24 years working for Cumbria Constabulary where he became Deputy Divisional Commander for Carlisle. His other roles during this time included working in CID and developing strategies and policies for protecting vulnerable people in local communities.
Chief Superintendent Jon Rush said: “I am incredibly pleased to be taking on this role at Bury and am looking forward to continue and develop the good work that has been undertaken with the partnerships over the past few years.
“I will continue to work closely with local communities, so that we can support them by understanding their needs and tackling any issues at a neighbourhood level. I will also be placing a strong emphasis on tackling anti-social behaviour and ensuring that the most vulnerable people in our communities are protected.
“Bury is constantly improving and reducing the amount of people that are victims of crime. I will strive to make further reductions in our priority crimes, such as burglary, robbery, violent crime and anti-social behaviour, as well as continuing to improve our detection rates.
“Bury has a fantastic team of police officers and staff who are dedicated to providing a first class service to all members of our community and I will continue to ensure that Bury is a safer and more pleasant place to live, work and visit.”
