BAPA

Greater Manchester Police Black and Asian Police Association (GMP - BAPA) started after a group of minority ethnic staff met and agreed that a support network for minority ethnic staff employed by GMP was required. They concluded that current arrangements for dealing with reported grievances, complaints of racial discrimination and fairness was not satisfactory and often sidelined because managers found the issue difficult to deal with or the complaint was considered an over reaction by the person concerned.

GMP BAPA was formally launched at Manchester Town Hall in November 1999, the scene was set and expectations raised. The sheer professionalism and the scale of the event undoubtedly provided a significant inspiration for the hundreds of delegates in attendance. We set out with very clear aims and objectives which form the associations mission statement.
