If you suspect it, report it

Everyone can help in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. The key messages is Don’t rely on others, if you suspect it report it.

The confidential Anti-Terrorist Hotline 0800 789321 is staffed around the clock by specialist terrorism police officers and staff. You can make a real difference by using the number to report any activity that is of concern.

It may be that you are suspicious about someone’s activities or their behaviour. Terrorists need somewhere to live, store their equipment and materials, need vehicles, have people who may help them at all times of the day and night, may make unusual financial transactions, could have false documents and may be behaving differently.

Detective Chief Superintendent Tony Porter, head of the North West Counter Terrorism Unit, said: “We can all play our part in protecting our communities and reporting any suspicious activity. When people provide information to the Anti-Terrorist Hotline they could be giving us the final piece of a complex jigsaw.”

A range of posters raising awareness of the number and encouraging people to report activity are being displayed in communities.

Alternatively, a confidential on-line form can be submitted (This service is managed by the Metropolitan Police). If you believe there is an immediate threat because of a suspicious vehicle or package call 999.
