Woman in counsellingARE YOU SUFFERING FROM DOMESTIC ABUSE?

If you, or someone you know, is suffering from domestic abuse, then we are here to help you.

You are not to blame for what is happening and it is not your fault. Above all, you are not alone and you don’t need to suffer in silence. Greater Manchester Police takes domestic abuse extremely seriously and help is available for you.

Everyone has a right to live in safety and have a future without fear. Our aim is to work with our partners to help stop the abuse so victims can regain control of their lives and move forwards to a safer, happier future.

It's important to break the silence and talk to someone – friends, family, GP, colleague, neighbour - as many abusers rely on silence to continue the abuse.

These pages have been designed to give as much information as possible about the work Greater Manchester Police and it’s partners are doing to help people suffering at the hands of abusers.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

The first step towards building a new, safer and fear-free life is telling someone about the abuse.

If you are experiencing domestic abuse, or are worried about a friend or family member, always dial 999 in an emergency. You can also contact your local Specialist Domestic Abuse Investigator for help, advice and support. Please see links below for your local contact details.

Alternatively, contact the Women's Domestic Abuse Helpline in Greater Manchester for confidential advice on 0161 636 7525. Help and support is available via the Helpline on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 10am and 4pm and on Tuesday's between 10am and 9pm. You can also visit www.endthefear.co.uk, which provides details of all local services available to you from a range of different organisations.

If you are a man suffering at the hands of an abuser, contact the Men's Advice Line on 0808 801 0327. It is a free, confidential helpline for men who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence from their partners or ex-partners. This includes all men - in heterosexual or same-sex relationships.

A number of other support agencies can also be found in the Support Services section (link) below that can provide advice and support to victims of domestic abuse.

Remember; always dial 999 in an emergency.
