Workforce composition
GMP employs a total of 483 Minority Ethnic people (3.8% of the workforce – an increase from 3.6% since 2005/06).- 316 Minority Ethnic police officers– an increase of 7 officers since 2005/06;
- 167 Minority Ethnic police staff – an increase of 21 staff since 2005/06;
- 34 Minority Ethnic Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs; included in the police staff total).
GMP employs a total of 4,682 females
- 1,972 (24.5%) of GMP’s police officers are female – an increase of 61 since 2005/06. 41.5% of all new police officer recruits during 2006/07 were female.
- 292 (38.2%) of GMP’s PCSOs are female.
Police officer recruitment
3.9% of all student police officers recruited in 2006/07 were from Minority Ethnic groups – 14 Minority Ethnic officers in total. We also continue to welcome Minority Ethnic police officers into GMP from other forces. In 2006/07, 4 Minority Ethnic police officers transferred from other forces (7.8% of all police officers transferring to GMP from other forces).In common with most other forces, the increase in Minority Ethnic employees represents slow but steady progress. We have a dedicated Positive Action Recruitment Team actively engaged in recruiting minority groups.
Police officer promotions
During 2006/07, 8 Minority Ethnic police officers were promoted to Sergeant rank, 2 to Inspector rank, and 1 to Superintendent rank.19 female police officers were promoted to Sergeant rank, 9 to Inspector rank, and 1 to Superintendent rank.
