A thief casually walked into the staff area of a coffee shop in Cheadle and stole property.
It happened at the Costa Coffee on the High Street in Cheadle at about 5pm on Saturday 3 October 2009.
The burglar went into the café and picked up a newspaper. He then walked to the back of the café and into the staff area.
After rifling through the room and stealing property, he went back into the customer area and was challenged by a member of staff. After claiming he was looking for the toilet, he then swiftly left the shop.
Staff realised they had been burgled later when they checked the CCTV.
The offender is described as white, in his 30s to 40s, of a skinny build and with receding fair or brown hair. He was wearing jeans and a beige jacket and also had a pushbike.
Police have now released a CCTV still of the man wanted in connection with the theft and are appealing to anyone who recognises him to come forward.
Detective Constable Catherine Jeffrey, of Stockport CID, said: "This thief was seemingly oblivious to the fact there was CCTV in the
room, and we have a clear picture of who this man is.
"I would now ask the public help us find the offender. Please, if you do recognise this man then do call us.
"In a tough economic climate, shops and restaurants cannot afford to fall prey to these sorts of criminals and with the public’s help we can find this man and deal with him so he cannot cause any more harm."
Anyone with information is asked to call Stockport CID on 0161 856 9755 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
