Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Liaison

GMP takes pride in playing an active part in the diverse communities we serve, not least Greater Manchester’s large and growing LGB&T communities. We are here to serve you, respond to you and meet your needs.



LGBT Liaison officers

GMP is split into 12 divisions and each one has specially-trained Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Liaison Officers. They are trained to deal with issues affecting LGB&T communities and police.

Gay Village Neighbourhood Policing Team

Canal Street has its own dedicated policing team. The team holds an advice surgery at the Lesbian and Gay Foundation on Princess Street, Manchester, every Thursday between 6 – 8pm. You don’t need to make an appointment and can rest assured that your issue will be dealt with in confidence. For more information, visit our Gay Village Neighbourhood Policing Team page.

Manchester Pride

As well as policing Pride, we also actively participate. Police officers, police staff, families, friends and colleagues once again took part in the Manchester Pride Parade. It was the ninth year that the police have taken part in the parade. In 2009, we won the best public sector entry in the overall parade.

Each year we walk as part of the 'Police with Pride' contingent. Police with Pride was formed by the North West regional police forces of Greater Manchester Police, Lancashire Constabulary, Cheshire Constabulary, Cumbria Constabulary, Merseyside Police and North Wales Police.

Hate crime

Abuse because of someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity is hate crime. If you have been verbally or physically abused, harassed or attacked in any way by someone because they think you are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, please help yourself and the community by reporting these crimes.

Even if it seems like a minor offence, we want to hear from you and will treat you seriously and with dignity. You can report hate crime by calling police on our non-emergency line - 101 – or by using our online form.

If you do not feel comfortable enough to report crime to the police this way, then you can utilise a third party reporting centre, like the LGF Helpline - 0845 3 30 30 30 (6pm-10pm daily).
