2007/2008 Diversity Monitoring Data
GMP is pleased to present our diversity monitoring data for 2007/8. The following pages (accessed through the links below) contain data and explanatory information split into subject areas. This method of publication has been agreed in order to maximise accessibility and follows feedback from the public and with the Strategic Independent Advisory Groups (IAGs). Additional data tables and information in relation to the GMP processes involved and the work undertaken to improve our performance in relation to equality and diversity is also provided including:
- Stop and search improvements
- Hate Crime developments
- Local initiatives that have improved our monitoring
- Events and incidents that have impacted on our data
- Monitoring standards achieved
- Employment and complaints processes
GMP scrutinises its diversity monitoring data on a monthly basis through its established performance management processes, and action is taken at the time to address any issues by the appropriate business area in partnership with Diversity Command. For the purposes of this report, the actions that the Force has taken in relation to both stop and account/search and hate crime are highlighted, in recognition of the particular interest of the Police Authority and the public in these areas, which impact so significantly on community confidence.
It should be noted that the Force is currently reviewing diversity monitoring categories to include information relating to all of the six strands of diversity (age, disability, gender, race, religion and sexual orientation). This is being undertaken in consultation with our Staff Associations and Strategic Independent Advisory Groups, with a view to ensuring that we are able to effectively measure how we deliver services and employment to all of our various diverse communities. Therefore, the monitored data at this stage relates mainly to ethnicity, with gender and age also featuring on occasions.
Our future vision, strategy and priorities in relation to our diversity and equality work in 2008-11 are presented in our Integrated Equality Scheme. The Scheme addresses all of the diversity and equality subject areas we monitor including; background to each area, previous work to date, our priorities and objectives in relation to these areas for 2008-11 and local case studies of good work that has been completed with our partners.
To assist in the interpretation of the data, you will also find attached an explanation of ethnicity classification and details of the estimated population of Greater Manchester and all GMP divisions (mid-2006 estimate).
