Links into Other Policing Business

Neighbourhood Policing is not a stand alone activity. It is integral to all aspects of mainstream policing, for example:

Criminal Investigation Department

Solving crime, bringing criminals to justice and identifying crime patterns are all key to ‘fighting crime, protecting people’ across the Communities of Greater Manchester.

The role of Divisional Detectives is critical and links directly to Neighbourhood Policing both operationally and with regard to intelligence gathering and sharing.

There will be a two-way flow of information between CID Officers and Neighbourhood Officers which will enable the organisation to deal with crime within a Neighbourhood Community.

Providing timely action and feedback to members of Communities who have been the victims of crime can also help reduce community tension and the fear of crime.

Call handlers

When a member of the public telephones the police about a problem in their Neighbourhood Community, a Call Handler is their first point of contact.

Call Handlers are trained to understand and provide an appropriate response to all incidents, and may provide advice, arrange for a crime report to be recorded, or arrange an officer to attend.

To ensure the caller receives the best and most appropriate help, Call Handlers need to be aware of the Neighbourhood Communities within Divisions, the local priorities for those Communities, and the appropriate Neighbourhood Policing Team details.
