Positive Action Team
GMP is committed to creating a Police Force which is representative of the communities in which it serves. As an equal opportunity employer Greater Manchester Police operate a Positive Action Team whose focus is around increasing the pool of applicants to GMP from under represented groups in all areas of the workforce.
To achieve this the team attend recruitment and community events to promote the various career opportunities available with in GMP, deliver information evenings and workshops around applying for jobs within GMP and offer one to one support, advice and guidance through out the recruitment process.
The Positive Action Team work in partnership with the Recruitment Consultancy Unit and Police Recruitment to encourage and support potential applicants from under represented groups throughout Greater Manchester.
Definitions
- Positive Action targets specific groups of people who are under represented in a particular sector, for whatever reason, and gives them extra encouragement to take up training or employment opportunities. It does not mean preventing others from taking advantage of these opportunities if they wish to do so.
- Positive Discrimination selectively offers work or training to specific groups regardless of ability. Positive discrimination is illegal under UK law.
