Stay Safe - Student Safety
Student Safety Art campaign
Below is a set of posters that were designed last year by three design students at Manchester Metropolitan University to help reduce student-related crime.
Helen Butterworth, one of the design students said: "As we are the target audience, we thought a fresh, exciting and vibrant approach would attract the attention of the student population. With the simple, cheeky and thought provoking straplines, we wanted to give the campaign a sense of fun while still communicating the serious crime prevention messages.
"Overall, we hope that our fellow students will take note and 'protect themselves and what they own' by taking some very simple steps."

Student Safety
There are more than 100,000 students across Greater Manchester - and one in three of them will be a victim of crime while at university.
That is why Greater Manchester Police has a number of ways to help keep students safe. These include high-visibility and covert patrols, monitoring CCTV and targeting offenders. But we're also helping you to prevent yourself from becoming a victim with our Stay Safe campaign.
It focusing on the crimes students are most likely to be victims of. Remember to:
- Keep valuables such as MP3 players, laptops and mobiles out of sight
- Shut and lock all windows and doors
- Keep to well-lit and busy areas.
To protect it, register it
Should the worst happen and your stuff gets lost or stolen you can improve your chances of getting it back simply by registering it with Immobilise, the UK's National Property Register.
Think Safe, Drink Safe
We want you to have an enjoyable and safe night out while you're studying. Our "Think Safe, Drink Safe" campaign promotes responsible drinking and raises awareness of the potential problems excessive drinking can lead to such as crime and anti-social behaviour.
The campaign supports the police as it uses increased powers and higher penalties for public order offences to deal with the culture of binge drinking. The messages are:
- Pace your drinks
- Stay with friends
- Plan your night out
Student Pub Watch
Student Pub Watch covers the Fallowfield, Oxford Rd and Withington areas and many pubs have signed up to the scheme, which means anyone causing trouble in a pub will be referred to the 'Acceptable Behaviour Scheme'. It's a committee of licensees, police offices and licensing offices who can impose on the offender anything up to a two-year ban from every single pub in the scheme.
