Counter terrorism

National Threat Levels

Assessments of the level of threat from terrorism are made nationally by the Home Office. The levels are:

Critical An attack is expected imminently
Severe An attack is highly likely
Substantial An attack is a strong possibility
Moderate An attack is possible but not likely
   Low An attack is unlikely

The current overall threat to the UK from International Terrorism is Severe.
(Updated 01.03.10)

The threat levels don’t require public action, but give an indication of the work that will be taking place by officers and staff behind the scenes.

If you suspect it, report it Anti Terrorist Hotline 0800 789321

Alternatively, a confidential on-line form can be submitted (This service is managed by the Metropolitan Police).  If you believe there is an immediate threat because of a suspicious vehicle or package call 999.
